Police on the East Coast of Demerara say they may have thwarted an attempt to free high profile murder suspect Royden Durant on Tuesday. Durant, of Buxton,Cheap NFL Jerseys China, East Coast Demerara,http://www.theworldsoccersshop.com/Brazil-Coutinho-Jersey.html, is charged with the August 30,Wholesale Jerseys China, 2007 murder of Cove and John businessman,Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys, Kumar Singh,Wholesale China Jerseys, called Mango Man.The court proceedings are taking place at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court.According to reports police received information that a plan was hatched to free Durant during his court appearance yesterday.This prompted police to beef up security in and around the Divisional Headquarters compound where the Magistrate’s court is located.A source who spoke to Kaieteur News did not give details of the information received by the police but disclosed that there was evidence of an attempted escape by the suspect.Kaieteur News understands that a check of the prison van that transported the suspect along with several other prisoners revealed that the inner lock had been cut.At the time there were other suspects, including those charged with the kidnapping of a Mahaicony rice farmer and his employee.However, no one admitted to cutting the lock. Kumar Singh was shot dead when a gang of gunmen invaded his home in a daring robbery.Only a few of the suspects including Durant are before the court. Police believe that some of the other perpetrators were slain during subsequent clean up of the Buxton gang.Tuesday’s incident bears some resemblance to the escape of the late Jermaine ‘Skinny’ Charles who fled from the Sparendaam Police Station lock-ups where he was being held after a court appearance at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
