By Tiffanne Ramphal With the initiation of community projects in the hinterland well underway, the beneficiary Amerindian communities are now anticipating rich returns from their proposed business ventures to assist in curbing the poverty levels existing in those regions.The Amerindian Development Fund (ADF) project, implemented by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, is expected to benefit approximately 180 Amerindian communities across the ten administrative regions of Guyana.As set out by the first phase of the project, 27 communities will receive funding of up to $5M each for the development of a community-based and -led initiative or business investment.According to information provided by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, 20 of the 27 communities to benefit from the poverty reduction funds have already begun to receive disbursements into their community bank accounts.A list generated as recent as yesterday, provided by the Amerindian Affairs Ministry, identified the current beneficiary communities as well as their proposed business venture. Included in the set, the community has proposed to purchase four horses, complete with saddles.All preparations for the operation of community projects are expected to be completed by the end of September, following which, implementation of the projects’ second phase will commence.
