Bodies recovered at Essequibo River mouthAnxiety turned into grief yesterday for the relatives of four fishermen after two bodies were recovered yesterday.Ranks of the Guyana Defence Force Coastguard discovered the bodies of cousins, Ramlall and Basdeo Ramphal,Wholesale Jerseys China, at the mouth of the Essequibo River around midday yesterday.Still missing: Michael RamlochanHowever, they only succeeded in bringing Ramlall Ramphal’s body to the Charity Wharf late yesterday afternoon.Sources in the area told this newspaper that Basdeo Ramphal’s body was still lying on a mud flat,China NFL Jerseys, which the rescue team found difficult to access. The discovery followed a massive aerial and riverain search carried out by the Defence Force coast guard that was called into the search for the missing fishermen on Monday.Family members had been desperately hoping that the crew of the ‘Sir Kegan’, captain Michael Ramlochan, 14-year-old Peter Torres and the two Ramphals were still alive although there were signs that they suffered a terrible fate. Now that the two bodies have been found, there is little hope of finding Ramlochan and Torres alive. The crew had left the Meadow Bank wharf last week Tuesday and was to return two days later.Still missing: Peter Torres, 14Their relatives began to worry when another fishing crew brought in the Sir Kegan’s flag and a piece of seine on Friday. They waited until Sunday and when the crew still did not show up, panic stepped in.A search was launched early Sunday morning and lasted until afternoon but still there was no sign of the men or their boat. The relatives’ fears worsened when news that the icebox of the missing vessel was pulled ashore on the Essequibo Coast was relayed on Monday. They were now convinced that the ‘Sir Kegan’ had met with ill fate but they were still hopeful that somehow the crew had survived. Another fishing crew discovered the icebox about 10 miles off the coastline on Thursday.According to one of the fishermen who found the icebox, it was filled with fish that had begun to rot. From as early as Monday there were reports that bodies had washed up near Moruca.Yesterday relatives insisted that the reports be checked out and after several hours of searching by the coast guard, the worst fears were confirmed.“The body (Ramlall Ramphal) bad. The flesh loose up. Tomorrow, early in the morning we will go back and bring in the other one,China NFL Jerseys,” a member of the search party told this newspaper. The source also assured that the search would continue for the boat’s captain and the other missing crewmember. It is almost certain that the ‘Sir Kegan’ sank in the Atlantic Ocean.According to fishermen,Wholesale Authentic Jerseys, attempts were made to pull up the piece of seine that was found where the boat’s flag was recovered but “something was holding it down”.Nalinie Singh, wife of the boat’s captain Michael Ramlochan, told this newspaper that although the two bodies have been found she is still not convinced that her husband is dead.“He’s a good swimmer. He will fight to the end. Until I see him dead I will still believe that he is alive,” Singh said.Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud who had visited the crewmembers’ relatives on Monday, yesterday expressed his condolences after he learnt that two bodies were recovered. He told this newspaper that the government had instructed that every possible resource be deployed in the search for the missing crew.“This has reminded us how risky it is for our fisher folk from day to day,Wholesale Authentic Jerseys,” Minister Persaud said.He assured that his Ministry would be in constant talks with fishermen in an effort to further improve on their safety. The police on the Essequibo Coast have taken possession of the ice box,Cheap Jerseys Online, while the body of Ramlall Ramphal is awaiting a post mortem examination.

Two men were yesterday remanded to prison after appearing at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for attempted murder. Joseph Barker and Keron Taylor were jointly charged with the offence which allegedly took place on August 18 at Waterloo Street, Georgetown.Taylor, 20,China Jerseys Free Shipping, of Charlestown,Cheap NBA Jerseys China, and Barker,Cheap NFL Jerseys Stitched, whose particulars were not disclosed, were accused of attempted murder on Kevin Singh. Taylor faced Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton in the morning hours while Barker was at the time a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital,Wholesale China Jerseys, since it was alleged that he was shot by the police. The men were not required to plead to the charge.Attorney-at-law Peter Hugh represented both accused. He first appeared for Taylor and requested reasonable bail. Hugh informed the court that his client had no previous convictions, but one gun matter pending at the Providence Court.Hugh speculated that since his client was known to the police, he was picked up and charged with the offence.Court prosecutor Burgett Grant objected to Taylor’s bail because of the nature and seriousness of the offence. Grant also mentioned that the victim was still hospitalized as a result of his injuries. She was however unable to disclose the seriousness of those injuries. The magistrate proceeded to remand Taylor,Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping, but Attorney Peter Hugh had intervened by asking the court to have the prosecutor disclose the seriousness of the victim’s injuries. Hugh argued that his client should be given the benefit of the doubt since the prosecutor was not properly informed to address the court. He thus desired to know if the prosecutor could have stated whether the victim was still in danger.Taylor was however remanded. Barker was also remanded after the court accepted the prosecution’s request for bail to be refused. The two will appear in court on October 1.It is unsure the purpose for the alleged attack on the victim,Wholesale NFL Jerseys, but Kaieteur News however learnt that the man was shot at least two times; once in the buttocks. – cite price of parts, rising cost of living Despite indications from the General Minibus Association (GMBA) and the Guyana Public Transportation Association (GPTA) that they are committed to reducing the minibus fares as a result of the reduction in gasoline prices at the Guyana Oil Company (Guyoil), numerous minibus operators, taxi drivers and speedboat operators are saying that a decrease in the present fares is unlikely.Minibus operators want to hold on to existing fareOne of the primary reasons cited by almost all of the operators for the unlikelihood of a drop in fare was the fact that they did not know if the price of gasoline would stay below $1000 per gallon. The last fare increase introduced by public transportation operators was advocated at the time when gasoline prices reached, and in some cases, exceeded $1,cheap jerseys,000 per gallon.Fuel price on the world market had increased to as much as US$147, but has plummeted to a 17-month low of $61.They said that if the price was lowered now, and then hiked in the near future, the fare would need to be raised once again. This, they said, would cause a great deal of confusion among the travelling public.“If de Government can give we (operators) some kind of security that de price gun stay low,Cheap Jerseys From China, then we might consider giving dem a drop in de fare,” explained one of the Route 40 operators. He added that in his opinion, if the price of gasoline should stay below $1000 per gallon for a few months,Wholesale Hockey Jerseys 2018, then a fare decrease should be put in order. Many of the operators noted that only one entity (Guyoil) was selling gasoline at $777 per gallon, and that not all of them utilise the services of those service stations.“Is not all of we does buy we gas from there, is like dem tryin now fuh tell we where we must buy the gas from,” said a Route 45 minibus conductor. One of the other primary reasons the GMBA and the GPTA had justified the increase in fare, earlier this year, was the skyrocketing prices for spare parts.Minibus operators noted that the prices of these essential spare parts have not gone down. If anything, they said, the prices were on the increase.Another reason fares could not be lowered, according to the minibus and taxi operators,Cheap Soccer Jerseys Free Shipping, is because the cost of living has not decreased.“If de price ah gas gone down, den de price fuh rice and sugar and everything else should drop too, as it does tek gas fuh mek all a dem things,” said a speedboat operator. The speedboat operators that spoke with Kaieteur News said that they did not expect the speedboat fare for the Georgetown/Vreed-en-Hoop crossing to drop. Similar to the minibus operators, they voiced concerns about the high cost of living and the expensive cost of maintaining their vessels.A member of the Demerara River Speedboat Association said that in the eyes of the association, there was no guarantee that the fare would decrease. Before this could be considered,Cheap NBA Jerseys China, Kaieteur News was told, a meeting and a discussion would have to be had with the speedboat operators,Cheap NFL Jerseys China, owners and members of the Association. The speedboat operators noted that the gas station nearest to the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling, which most of the operators used due to its proximity, has not been selling gasoline at the new reduced price.“We aren’t buyin’ at a lower price, so how we gun charge people less money?” asked one of the bowmen. One of the owners of one of the leading taxi companies in Georgetown noted while it was good that the price of gasoline was falling, it was not likely that taxi fares would drop significantly. He added that it was also too soon to tell if the fares would decrease. However, members of the travelling public in Stabroek Market yesterday said that they thought that fares should be lowered due to the reductions in gasoline. They said that the increased transportation costs were severely denting their budgets and pockets.Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh had announced that the prices of fuel being sold by the Government-owned gas station would be reduced in light of falling oil prices on the world market. The Minister said that gasoline prices would slashed by 20.7 percent.Minister Singh explained that the government’s decision to implement the reductions stemmed from the considerable decline observed in oil prices on the world market in recent days.He also indicated that in accordance with the stabilising mechanism that has been utilised by Government in relation to fuel prices and taxes, the excise tax on gasoline would be adjusted to 50 percent.

Visiting Professor of Applied Ecology, Francis Putz, brings a global debate to Guyana and seems to have no difficulty finding parties to counter his arguments as the Minister of Agriculture comments on the Professor’s presentation.Professor Putz,Cheap Jerseys China, who holds joint professorships with the University of Florida and Utrecht University in the Netherlands,Cheap Jerseys Online, is an ecologist and a silviculturist. In this his first visit to Guyana he spent nearly a fortnight out in the field with a number of students from the University of Guyana and other institutions.A little over 24 hours after their return from the interior, Professor Putz gave a seminar at the University of Guyana on Monday evening. The basis of the Professor’s Lecture followed the ideas that he put forth in a letter which was published in the Stabroek News on June 3, last.He said that the Kyoto Protocol, which guides climate change adaptation negotiations around the world, excluded standing forests from their considerations as one of the factors affecting climate. According to Professor Putz, because the Kyoto Protocol remains in force until 2012, there needed to be another initiative that would encompass standing forests, enter REDD or Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation. In the letter previously mentioned he highlighted what he thought was a global issue that even environmentally conscious Guyana has not escaped from entirely. Putz posits that “carbon emissions” benefits of improved forest management are not being sufficiently stressed.”He goes on further to say that in the global climate change debates the focus tends to be on the deforestation rather than the degradation. In his presentation the Professor pointed out that degradation is not an issue to be ignored either since it accounts for almost 10 per cent of global carbon emissions every year.He went on to say that the most significant causative factor of degradation was conventional logging. As such he presents a possible solution, Reduced Impact Logging (RIL).According to the Professor,Wholesale Adidas Hockey Jerseys, if Guyanese forests are being logged at a rate of 500,000 cubic metres of timber annually using conventional logging practices then he estimates that “100,NFL Jerseys China,000 Mg (tons) of carbon could be retained annually in the forest by universal adoption of reduced-impact logging (RIL) practices.”He continues to make his case by pointing out that “this reduction in emissions would be secured with no reduction in harvested volumes.”The Professor then went on to point out that the funds generated by these ‘saved emissions’ could then be utilized to train workers in reduced impact forestry techniques. And further, those benefits could be increased by employing silviculture to increase logging yields. The day after Putz’s article was published a letter to the same publication disputed the Professor’s position and the letter-writer, one Mr. Terrence Williams, contended that there were numerous documents attesting to the fact that the Government of Guyana was doing everything in its power to address not only deforestation but forest degradation as well.Minister of Agriculture,Cheap Jerseys Wholesale, Robert Persaud, when asked for comment on the matter said that “the benefits of RIL are clear in Guyana’s context and in actuality have been expounded in a number of publicly available documents including: the LCDS, the Terms of Reference for the Monitoring Reporting and Verification System, and the Readiness Preparation Proposal among others.”He went on to say that “to an even further extent,Jerseys From China, actual work has started to operationalise many of these plans that effectively outline how deforestation and forest degradation will be assessed and monitored, and the role of sustainable forest management which included Reduced Impact Logging in Guyana’s REDD+ activities.”And that “it was unclear following the presentation whether the presenters were familiar with these.”Persaud said fact that to date the Forestry Training Centre has thus far instructed more than a thousand persons in Reduced Impact Logging practices. He went on to point out that RIL has been the predominant practice in the forestry sector for a number of years.
