After a short stint as Trinidad’s High Commissioner to Guyana, Carrington was appointed Secretary-General of Caricom in August 1992. A little over a month before his son died in September, Carrington announced his decision to step down as Secretary General of CARICOM.The 72 year old career diplomat who speaks English, French and some Spanish will demit office at the end of the year, two years before the end of what would have been his fourth five-year term.
