The five suspected pirates who were held in a boat on Sunday morning at the Eversham koker on the Corentyne were on Wednesday remanded to prison by Magistrate Krisendat Persaud when they appeared before him at the No 51 Magistrate court charged with possession of Narcotics.Investigations are continuing into the men’s suspected piracy activities.The men Roy Morgan,Cheap Jerseys Online, Darshan Barrat, Deodat Satnarine, Charles Samaroo and Steve O’Neil, all of Rosignol, West Bank Berbice, are accused of being in possession of five grams of Narcotics on Sunday September 25, at Eversham koker.They were refused bail and remanded until tomorrow when the matter will come up again at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court.On the day in question the men were allegedly seen consuming alcohol in a boat. They were held after it was suspected that they were the pirates who were causing mayhem on the Guyana and Suriname waters over the past month.The Berbice Anti-Piracy Committee and the Police were informed and they were arrested.? The unnamed boat is suspected to belong to a member of the Rosignol Fishermen’s Cooperative. A small fishing boat was used in the operation to help arrest the men.According to information the boat fitted the description of the craft that carried out the spate of attacks on the fishermen recently.The fishermen who were robbed and some badly beaten had stated that the pirate’s vessel was red at bottom, and grey at the sides with black. At the time of the arrest it was reported that the vessel had a large quantity of seines, fish and fish glue, suspected to be stolen items.Marijuana was also found in the boat.? Reports are that the fish was sold to a blue truck which is unknown to any of the fishers along the Corentyne.A radio was also found on the boat bearing the mark ‘King’ and belonged to Roypen Mothian known as Triggy, a member of the Upper Corentyne Cooperative. His vessel was hijacked on September 14, 2011.? The vessel was powered by a 48- horse power Yamaha outboard engine. The boat was taken to the Number 66 Cooperative wharf where it is moored.The engine has been lodged at the Springlands Police StationAs investigation continues the suspected pirates may also be charged with threatening behaviour since it is understood that the five suspected pirates threatened the lives of members of the Berbice Anti Piracy Committee who were on the operation that led to their capture. This threat was carried out in the presence of the police.In the meanwhile the police at Springlands are still investigating the circumstances into which a seine belonging to the ill fated “Reshma”, the? boat in which five fishermen disappeared and owned by Gajadar Bishnauth, called Lakeram of Lot 198 Number 64 village ended up in the hands of another fisherman of the Cooperative.The owner of the boat had told police that his crew which is currently out at sea, found the seine in the water. Investigation is continuing and the police are waiting on the return of the other crew from sea to probe further.The “Reshma” which went missing after its crew disappeared at sea and was found abandoned in Suriname has been brought back by the owner and is moored at the Number 66 foreshore.The Captain said that he doesn’t know when his boat will go back out to sea after his devastating loss.
