– Region to supply potable water by weekendThe Region Ten Administration is expected to dispatch ’Tuff’ tanks containing potable water this weekend to Rockstone’s residents in light of the flood situation which has left the community’s main sources of water supply (creek and spring) contaminated, says Regional Chairman Mortimer Mingo.Residents are currently leaving the village in search of other springs and creeks to obtain potable water.It was noted that the flood water is receding slowly, but hours of rainfall and the river overflowing its banks, is disheartening residents.Chris Ford, a villager, stated that the flood has their livelihoods at a standstill, as they depend mainly on fishing and tourism. Though the water level has decreased by six inches it is still too high to conduct fishing and tourism activities. Ford explained that the fish are trapped in the bushes and setting seine to catch them is difficult.What is also alarming is that water overflowing the river bank has taken in five miles of land. Farming which is done on a subsistence level by most households has been affected, even though some are along the slope of the hills. The constant ‘beating’ of the rain on the vegetables has damaged them.
