Even though top sugar experts have swallowed the bitter truth that Guyana will not be able to compete on the international market with its sugar for various reasons, they are hoping that a breakthrough would be possible with a new upgraded sugar called, “Enmore Crystals.”GuySuCo Chairman,Dr. Clive ThomasThis is according to Chairman of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo),Cheap NFL Jerseys China, Dr. Clive Thomas. In a recent interview, Dr Thomas, an Economist said,Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale, “The report on the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into GuySuCo will outline some of the measures and recommendations I had put forward, which could see the reform of the industry but I don’t want to go into that until the report has been made public by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Noel Holder. But what I would say is that Guyana remains in a position where it cannot be competitive on the world market.”He added, “However, what is receiving great reviews is the option of upgrading our sugar which gives us some leverage to sell it for more. The product we are working on right now is called ‘Enmore Crystals’ and this packaged sugar is only being done in small quantities for the markets in Canada,Sale NFL Jerseys, USA and Britain.”The GuySuCo Chairman said that the Board and Management believe that the packaged sugar will do better than “the ordinary sugar sold in the transparent plastic bag.” He noted that samples are already being taken to the three markets he outlined, among other places where contacts are made.Dr. Thomas said, “We are trying to penetrate the market with small quantities and build up as time goes. We are basically doing this to see how we can get a higher price for our sugar. And so far, it has been receiving favourable reviews from our international contacts, so we are looking to see how this works out but there are other plans in the pipeline for the diversification of this product and bringing the industry back to good health.”The Economist noted that signs of good health in the local sugar industry are already being detected. For years, the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) has been performing poorly.Several sugar estates were failing to meet weekly and annual production targets, and the management of the State-owned company, among other factors, was blamed for the industry’s poor health. But since the APNU+AFC coalition has taken hold of the reigns of governance, GuySuCo seems to be making some improvements. It recently reported that several estates have not only been meeting weekly targets but surpassing them. Even the controversial $200M Skeldon Factory has improved in its daily production. In mid October, the corporation said that Skeldon saw its highest daily production since its commissioning in 2009. It recorded 515 tonnes of sugar, surpassing its previous highest of 501 tonnes which was achieved in September 2012.It said,Wholesale Authentic Jerseys, too, that with just two and half months left in the year, sugar production is on course with almost 78 percent of the target completed. With regard to production, GuySuCo disclosed that it produced 10,254 tonnes of sugar for the week ending October 16, surpassing the 10,000 tonnes mark for the third time this crop.Estates at Skeldon,NFL Jerseys Wholesale From China, Albion, Blairmont, East Demerara and Uitvlugt have all surpassed their weekly targets while Rose Hall Estate achieved 97 percent. In mid-October, it was reported that the industry also recorded its highest daily production of 1,785 tonnes of sugar, surpassing its previous highest of 1,699 tonnes which was also achieved earlier in this crop. The Uitvlugt Estate completed its second crop for 2015 on Saturday October 17 and produced 7,847 tonnes of sugar, surpassing its target by 733 tonnes.“Further, the estate produced 16,428 tonnes of sugar for the year surpassing its year’s target by 1,065 tonnes.”GuySuCo also announced that it has awarded its junior staffers and rank and file employees on the seven estates incentives totaling $285.7M for their achievement of 26 weekly production targets for the first crop, 2015.For the second crop, the Corporation has doled out incentives totaling $531.5M for the achievement of 47 weekly production incentives.Dr. Thomas had informed Kaieteur News that he is happy with the recent success of the sugar industry in some areas and noted that several plans are in the mainstream to help develop other areas. He however declined to divulge what those are at this time. The economist said, “But for the time being, I would say that I am pleased with the performance of the Corporation. It is proof of what good management can achieve. It’s a different kind of environment we have now; a healthy

By Desilon DanielsThe Government of Guyana has committed $65M to the Guyana delegation slated to represent the nation during the upcoming CARIFESTA XII in Haiti.CARIFESTA officials ready to go! (From left) Ohene Koama, Seeta Shah Roath, Minister Nicolette Henry, Lennox Canterbury, Roshini Boodhoo, and Al CreightonCome August 21, 80 Guyanese will make their way to Haiti where they hope to wow the rest of the Caribbean during the regional festival. This year’s CARIFESTA (Caribbean Festival of Arts) will run until August 30.During a press conference yesterday, a number of local officials briefed the media on what Guyana will be exhibiting in about two weeks. It was during this press conference that Minister within the Ministry of Education Nicolette Henry revealed that not only was there a $65M budget for Guyana’s excursion but that this figure will be provided solely by the Government of Guyana. She explained that this budget will cover travel expenses to and around Haiti, accommodation and materials for the entire delegation.Minister Henry stressed that the budget was a necessary one for the promotion of culture in Guyana.“Culture is said to be the oil that keeps society running. It’s very important that we understand the role of culture in development, because through culture you get a better understanding of tradition, and it allows us to showcase what we have,” Henry said. She continued, “So you can’t be looking in terms of dollar value; it is the more intangible that contributes to development.”She added that Guyana has a rich legacy to upkeep in regards to CARIFESTA.The chartering of flights and payment for block seats arrangement also ran up the costs. This year’s CARIFESTA, the twelfth edition, will see wide participation by Guyana. The majority of the delegates heading to Haiti were made up of the drama, dance and music crews. In terms of the visual arts component,Wholesale NFL Jerseys, Guyana has submitted 27 entries. These entries span paintings, drawings, and sculptures and will feature newcomers along with mature artists who have already exhibited at such a high level. Additionally, the pieces are on display at Castellani House until Monday.According to Ohene Koama, Acting Curator of the National Gallery, 27 pieces might be considered a small number to some persons but, due to the sizes of the pieces, it is actually an adequate collection to occupy the required space. He added that they are still unsure of the exact space that will be used for the exhibition in Haiti and therefore would rather be safe than sorry.Furthermore, dance will continue to be a main showcase for Guyana at CARIFESTA. Roshini Boodhoo, who is one of the coordinators for the dance component, explained that a number of local choreographers are on board including Vivian Daniels and Clive Prowell.“We ensure that the categories and styles of dance that we chose will best represent our culture here in Guyana,” she added. She further explained that, in order to achieve “perfection”, auditions were open to the general public instead of the usual hand selection of dancers. The selected dancers were required to know at least two styles of dance. The dance component will be executed under the theme,http://www.theworldsoccersshop.com/Brazil-Felipe-Anderson-Jersey.html, “Legends and rhythms of Guyana – a colourful dancescape” and Boodhoo expressed hope that Guyana’s rich cultural heritage would be explored through the theme.Furthermore, as part of the production in Haiti,NFL Jerseys Wholesale, there will be a “Guyana Night” performance. The CARIFESTA theme is under the general concept of embracing one’s roots along with a common future. With that theme in mind, the Guyana delegation came up with its own theme, “rice and rhythms of Guyana”.The participants in the performing arts will explore Guyana’s heritage through Guyanese folklore, legends and myths and express “rice and rhythms” through music, song, dance and drama. The entire programme will be linked through a musical theme. Additionally, masquerading and drums are expected to make an appearance to add spice to Guyana’s performance. All aspects of Guyanese culture, whether it is Indian, African or otherwise, will be on display.Meanwhile, this year will see the addition of new components. The Guyana delegation will be expanding and will include body art this time around. The art will be created Steve Douglas, founder of Bravo Arts, and will also cover theatre makeup. Douglas will be hosting a body-painting exhibition, conducting a face-painting workshop,John Gibson, holding an interaction booth, and assisting with face-painting designs for the Guyanese contingency.Additionally, fashion will also be one of the areas Guyana exhibits
