The engineering fraternity is in mourning following the passing of Grenville Felix.He was recognised recently in an extensive article as the country’s oldest surviving engineer. The Canefield Settlement, Canje, Berbice resident passed away last Sunday January 5th at the Anamaya Memorial Hospital, Corentyne. He was 96. He leaves to mourn his ten children – eight sons and two daughters.Grenville Felix,Air Max 97 Undefeated Black, his son Russell and two of his granddaughters.Felix or ‘Uncle Gren’ as he was fondly called was born on July 16,Air Max 2018 Shoes, 1917, at Betsy Ground,Adidas Superstar Shoes For Women, East Canje. He attended Elementary School in Betsy Ground, and at age 13,Womens Nike Free Run, he received a partial scholarship to attend Collegiate School in Georgetown. He returned to Canje upon the completion of that scholarship. From an early age he was able to read blueprints and do his drawing based on Geometric principles.He started working at the age of 16 as an apprentice at the sugar factory and was promoted to Factory Engineer Foreman in 1954. In 1958 he was elevated to a Senior Factory Engineering Foreman after which he became Assistant Engineer in 1967.In 1972, he was promoted again to Senior Engineer where he trained and mentored Assistant Engineers and performed administrative duties as well as consultations. In 1974, Felix rose to Assistant Factory Manager-Engineer, and retired three years later in 1977.Due to his outstanding performance, he was recalled to work in the same designation in 1978, where he provided technical assistance to the engineers including training and consultation. During his lifetime he trained countless engineers across the country to sharpen as well as master their skills in the field.Felix was not only known for his engineering skills, but for adroitly making iron chairs and other kinds of chairs,Carlton Fisk Jersey, which he enjoyed doing up to a few years ago. He was also a very staunch ‘family man’ who loved and cared deeply for those closest to him.? Between school and then work he did many chores including scrubbing floors, washing large bundles of clothes, catching fish,2018 Nike Air Max 97,? riding his bicycle for two hours to New Forest, East Canje, then walking for about another hour to the North Cumberland Farm, spending about three hours planting rice, and two hours harvesting produce from the farm. The products were then carried for one hour through puddles of mud and pimples, in order to bypass the fearful ‘Stump’ in the Canje Creek.He was instrumental in the rescue operation and the saving of many lives during the fatal industrial accident at Rose Hall Estate on January 13, 1970. During that horrible incident, when seven workers in the boiler section died, he had only just returned to work from leave.Grenville Felix spent most of his years working in the Sugar Industry, particularly at the nearby Rose Hall Estate. He travelled extensively on work related matters and was a member of countless social and community-based organisations. Two years ago his children and other relatives along with the Flying Aces Cycling Club started the annual Grenville Felix cycle road race in his honour.
