One relative who spoke to Kaieteur News explained that Giles had called his mother on February 22 sometime around 21:00hrs. During the time the call was made, Giles was heard arguing with a male whom he identified. Corporal Giles reportedly told his mother that the man was threatening to kill him.According to relatives, Corporal Giles was advised to leave the home and come to Georgetown. Later in the evening another relative allegedly received a call from Giles. Kaieteur News was told that the relative spoke to Giles up until midnight and that was the last time anyone heard from him. Relatives suggest that these series of calls leave questions about the actual time of death.Relative s alleged that on February 23, sometime around 07:30 hrs, Giles’ wife called one of his sisters. The sister was allegedly told that she should catch a taxi and come to the Cove and John Police Station. The woman was questioned by the relative as to why she should travel to the station.The wife allegedly told?the sister that the couple’s two children were “waking up” their father who was lying down and he wasn’t moving. The wife continued to tell the man’s sister that she had not entered the house, but travelled to the Cove and John Police Station to get the police.? Immediately the relative started to question the woman as to why she hadn’t entered the house, but chose to go to the station.“ What did she go to the station and tell the police….’my husband isn’t waking up?’ Clearly, that doesn’t make sense,” a relative stated.During the same telephone call, the wife also allegedly admitted that a close relative of hers and Giles had a heated argument on Friday night.That entire conversation between the wife and Giles’s sister was recorded via an answering machine. After hanging up the phone from Giles’s wife, the sister said she called another sibling.While the two were chatting, a senior police rank from the Cove and John Station reportedly called the first sister and informed her of Giles’ death.
