The Young Leaders, through the assistance of Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc., are currently distributing a “hamper of essential foodstuff” to the participating families in the community. Each family receiving the “hamper” has reciprocal responsibilities. These are two-fold being child-parent and community environmental health responsibilities.KEY INITIATIVEThe Young Leaders are now engaged in their community change project, which is one of the deliverables of the ACDA/IDB Programme. Each of the three Young Leaders groups from Albouystown, Agricola and Buxton is tasked with doing something in their communities that will have a discernible change. For the Young Leaders of Albouystown, they have decided to refurbish the Faith of God Church which they have negotiated for the hosting of their weekly Mentorship Programme.Pastor Greaves, who owns the Church, has agreed to work in partnership with The Young Leaders of Albouystown. The Church itself has not been used since the early 1990s and currently has a very porous roof that leaks when there is any amount of rainfall .This has resulted in at least two cancelations since the programme began. The Church also has no electricity or water. The Young Leaders need to fix the roof? (60 zinc sheets are needed),? re-wire the entire building as there is none; fix the wooden doors and windows; and have some basic infrastructure such as a few desks, a refrigerator and stove.Habitat for Humanity has committed some wood, nails and manual labour when the refurbishing begins.
