Pholmaitie was however not well enough to travel back with the group which returned to Guyana on March 6. She required further treatment in India and is expected to return to Guyana on Tuesday.Sachin Singh, on the other hand, spent most of his time since birth in the hospital. Apart from having a large VSD (hole in the heart), he also had a PDA and had developed severe pulmonary artery hypertension which made surgery and the post-operative period complicated. He has however, returned to Guyana in good health.The recent mission, according to Jeanette Singh, represents the largest group that the Foundation has ever taken at any one time, thus there were many challenges that were faced. Apart from the seriously ill children, there were other issues such as bed unavailability in the ICU, lack of accommodation for the children and their mothers and transportation, Jeanette Singh disclosed.“Most of the patients required longer stay in the ICU after surgery, mainly because they had developed pulmonary artery hypertension as a result of being left untreated since birth” she added.This mission, Singh said, was made possible through the kind and generous donation of Chris Mohan, a Guyanese businessman based in Toronto who donated Cdn$55,000. The local Ministry of Health also rendered financial contribution as well as those who supported a fundraiser in Toronto last month.
