…more charges likelyAshley Pieters.A 27-year-old mother of two was yesterday remanded by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.Ashley Pieters, of 33 Lyng Street, Charlestown, pleaded not guilty to two counts of dangerous driving. It was alleged that the accused,Wholesale NBA Jerseys China, on June 12, last, at Broad and Ketley Streets, Charlestown, drove motor car PLL 732 in a dangerous manner and caused the death of John France, called “Early Bird”.A second charge states that the accused,NFL Jerseys Authentic China, on the same date, at Broad and Ketley Streets,Wholesale China Jerseys, drove motorcar PLL 732 in a dangerous manner to the public. As the charges were being read to Pieters, she began to cry and shake uncontrollably in the dock.Pieters was represented by attorney at law Neil Boston,Soccer Jerseys China, who in a bail application, told the court that his client has sufficient ties to the community because she is the sole breadwinner of two minors. The lawyer explained that his client has no reason to seek to thwart the course of justice, adding that there is no evidence which would hint that she would try and prevent the course of justice, since she does not know any of the witnesses that are testifying against her.Boston said that Pieters has no previous convictions to her name, and that if bail is granted she would not commit similar offences. However, Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith objected to bail and told the court that Pieters is definitely a flight risk. The prosecutor said that the accident occurred on June 12 and? the defendant turned herself in six days later. She said that other charges are likely to be laid against the defendant. Griffith further told the court that after the accident occurred,Cheap NBA Jerseys China, the defendant along with another person, took the deceased and abandoned him at the hospital.According to the prosecutor the defendant was in hiding. She said that the address that the lawyer gave for Pieters was a location where the accused no longer lives because the police visited that address twice and other residents promptly informed them that she was no longer living there.Griffith lamented the fact that death occurred by the hands of an unlicenced driver, adding that both victims were walking in the corner of the street when the defendant struck them. That accident subsequently caused one to die and the other to be seriously injured. The prosecutor said that the defendant is an adult and should have known better, to drive a car without a license.Attorney at law Boston interjected and told the court, that the prosecution should be dealing with law and not emotions. He said that those principles which the prosecution raised are not principles under which bail is refused. The lawyer explained that there are some main reasons why bail should not be granted. “The prosecution must know for a fact that justice would be thwarted, that the defendant would flee the jurisdiction if bail in granted, and that the defendant would interfere with the witnesses or that the defendant would commit similar offences if admitted to his or her pretrial liberty.” Boston said. The lawyer further stated that his client was not the driver of the vehicle, but merely a passenger. He said that if the police really wanted his client they should have taken out an advertisement in one of the daily newspapers.According to the lawyer,Cheap Authentic Jerseys, his client only became aware of the fact that the police wanted her for questioning when her reputed husband informed her.The lawyer said that if his client wanted to flee the jurisdiction she would have done so already. He said that even if the police went to the Lyng Street address and was told that Pieters does not live there, that still does not mean that she doesn’t live there.“My client could have been visiting relatives at the time because she is a single parent who has to try and make ends meet”.Police Prosecutor Griffith in readdress said that the defendant was definitely the driver of the vehicle because of a statement which the owner of the vehicle gave to the police. She said that the defendant was not licensed which is a serious offence and she should be brought to justice.According to the prosecutor, the car was parked at the defendant’s house because the owner does not have enough yard space. She said that the defendant took the car without the knowledge of the owner.Griffith further noted that the law requires that an accident must be reported within 24 hours, but the defendant took six days to report the accident. The accused is expected to make another court appearance today and
