Intensified efforts are apace to rid the school system of every indication of violence as according to Minister of Education, Shaik Baksh, as he along with his officers have “no tolerance for violence. We don’t even have tolerance for a single case of violence in the school system,Supply Cheap Jerseys,” the Minister passionately asserted yesterday. In fact,China NFL Jerseys, he noted that the Ministry is currently on a mission to stamp out all evidence of “Gaza and Gully” in the school system which seems to have invaded the system and has had a negative impact on some students.Of recent,Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic, the Minister said that the unthinkable has occurred in the local school system where there appears to be evidence of the formation of gangs and clich?s creating unnecessary havoc in some schools. And according to the Minister,Discount NFL Jerseys, he will no longer allow this practice to persist. And stern measures, he said,Wholesale NFL Jerseys, will be put in place to address this problem in schools, even as he speculated that parents will support measures already outlined to be implemented by the Ministry. At the moment, the Ministry is touting a 10 point plan of action to address the situation which according to the Minister, should within the next three years bring about a notable change in the education system. He was at the time addressing a forum at the Tutorial High School geared at emphasising the need for a collaborative effort between parents, teachers and members of the Parent/Teacher Association and other members of society to guide a positive way forward.According to the Minister, he is aware that Tutorial High has over 1,000 students, thus it is expected that ensuring discipline and safety in schools will be somewhat of a challenge. It is for this very reason the Minister said that he has been stressing the importance of persons aside from teachers to help with the glaring problem. Principal among the outside help is that from parents. “Too many parents abdicate their responsibility to pay some interest in the children’s school life. The school is there to help that process but it can’t do it alone,” Minister Baksh insisted. He further lambasted what he referred to “as an attempt by some sections of the media to sensationalise violence in schools… It is a concern and we will act even with one single case of violence to eliminate it.”And the zero tolerance stance to violence, according to the Minister,Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale, will not only be extended to Tutorial High but to all schools across the country. He noted that the similar exercises undertaken yesterday will also be taken to the various education districts, even as he noted that already measures are being put in place to improve security systems and to make schools safe and secure. In addition to re-establishing student councils, a vibrant voluntary mentorship programme is expected to be introduced to various schools as part of the efforts to improve the behaviours and attitudes that are portrayed by students.Yesterday, several parents who represented the audience in the packed Tutorial High School auditorium volunteered themselves to be a part of the programme. Persons who have volunteered will become eligible for special training to enhance their ability to mentor.Among those supporting the Ministry’s attempt to address the problem were Executive Director of Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association, Ms Beverly Chan, who in a most motivational way highlighted the importance of proper parenting which could lend to the improvement of the education system. The notion was also echoed by Principal Education Officer Mr Marcel Hutson, who noted that the issue must be approached from various fronts, particularly from the home front. He further commended the fathers that were in attendance for showing an interest in the very necessary initiative.

“Every project undergone by this administration is top-secret and that shows contempt against the people.”By Abena RockcliffeAPNU Member of Parliament,Jerseys NFL Wholesale, Jaipaul SharmaAfter a year and a few months as a Member of Parliament, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU)’s Jaipaul Sharma, still believes that one discerning voice can make a difference. With a financial background, Sharma also sits as a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) – a parliamentary committee mandated to scrutinise the Auditor General’s report. Before becoming a parliamentarian, Sharma served the public while being employed at the Auditor General’s Office, Public Service Ministry, Labour Ministry, Region six,Wholesale Jerseys 2018, Regional Democratic Council and the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).In an exclusive interview with Kaieteur News, Sharma said that he has found his recently begun journey along the parliamentary road to be an interesting one.“It is interesting to see how petty politicians can be; their lack of vision and more so lack of understanding of the constitution is almost too hard to believe.”While admitting that he is not yet a seasoned politician, Sharma said that he feels a great sense of pride by being an assigned member of the PAC with the “top guns” of the government. The PAC comprises eight members – the opposition has four representing members and the same for the government – and a chairman.Sharma emphasised his point that the opposition was confident enough to send its “backbenchers” while the government “sent its party hierarchy… look at it, the only extremely experienced Parliamentarian on the opposition’s side is Volda Lawrence, while the PPP sent all its presidential advisors and past ministers.”He said that nevertheless, he feels “at home” being a member of the PAC, simply because it is his field. The former GECOM employee said that it is his earnest view that the committee is doing a good job, however, he recommended more vibrancy and for the PAC to move away from the old way of asking questions.“I appeared before the PAC before and I know that the simplest thing to answer is those yes or no questions, you don’t get down to the bottom of things that way. And another thing is that the members on the government’s side need to stop answering questions posed to the persons before the committee. They need to be natural.”Sharma disclosed that his responsibility as a sitting Member of Parliament lies with Region Four, but he chooses not to limit himself outside the realm of parliament. The opposition member said that persons would approach him with numerous queries “and it is fulfilling to know that you can help.”He cited as an example that there were lots of instances subsequent to the budget cuts last year that “persons come up to me and ask what we (the opposition) are really doing, because we cut the money that would have gone towards roads. And I had to explain to them… show them what we really did cut and tell them the reasons why.”Sharma stressed that it is still vested in him to make a difference.Asked about the fact that he is not otherwise employed, Sharma said that he chose this course so as not to compromise his position as a Member of Parliament.“I don’t ask favours and don’t like people asking me favours.”Waste of taxpayers’ money or democracy? The last three parliamentary sittings each saw a walkout being staged. The first was staged by the government, then the opposition, and at the last sitting, the Speaker.During the interview with Sharma, nhl jerseys outlet, reference was made to the fact that it costs the country almost two million dollars to facilitate each sitting and despite knowing this, politicians seem to insist on staging walkouts.Sharma was asked if he sees the walkouts and abrupt adjournments as a waste of taxpayers’ money, but responded in the negative.“The public and the media must have its own view on that; but, the truth is those are the prices you pay for democracy…and parliamentary democracy must live.”The parliamentarian dubbed the money received by him and colleagues, on a monthly basis, a stipend. According to Sharma, members of parliament are supposed to receive a salary but “if it was a salary we should have been receiving vacation allowances… they only say it is a salary.”Sharma opined that allowances need to be urgently addressedHe advocated for parliamentarians to be paid enough so that they don’t have to be “gainfully” employed at any other entity “otherwise employment leaves more room for the member to be compromised. “But more importantly, in his eyes, Sharma thinks that the opposition’s shadow ministers should be given benefits like those of a minister. He noted that the government has 20 ministerial positions, including those of ministers within respective ministries.“But, the op

By Dale AndrewsEleven years ago,Wholesale Jerseys From China, Prison Officer Roxanne Winfield was staring down the road of death; doctors battled desperately while relatives prayed earnestly to save her life. She had been shot in the head at point blank range by one of five dangerous criminals who subsequently stormed out of the Camp Street Prison, sparking off the most vicious crime wave that this country has ever experienced.A model of the homeOn February 23, 2002, Winfield was in charge of the inner gate while 21-year old Prison Officer Troy Williams was manning the outer gate. Williams was later stabbed to death by the escaping criminals.Winfield was scheduled to be relieved soon as she had planned to attend the Mashramani Float Parade with her children. She hadn’t the slightest clue that her life would have been dramatically altered from that day on.Shortly after midday on Mash Day that year, five desperate criminals,Wholesale Jerseys, Andrew Douglas, Dale Moore, Shawn Browne, Mark Fraser and Troy Dick, first approached her at her post and demanded the keys to facilitate their escape.Roxanne stood up to their demand and for that she almost paid the ultimate price.Although her words were not being enunciated, I understood everything she was trying to tell me during an interview I had with her last year. She folded her fist to demonstrate that she held on to the gate keys. There are reports that when the men began to physically assault her, she threw the keys away, oblivious to the consequences of that act.Angered by the stance that Winfield was taking, one of the bandits placed a shotgun to her head and pulled the trigger. For the next several weeks, Winfield remained in a coma on life support machines. The whole of Guyana prayed for her survival. When her condition became clearly known, of course there were some who felt that she should not be left to suffer and silently prayed for an end to her suffering. But her relatives had other plans for her. They were lucky to have the services of famed Caribbean Neurosurgeon Dr. Richard Span, and their faith in God.There were long vigils that family members kept outside the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.Roxanne Winfield and a young relativeI spent a few nights with them and could recall seeing them holding hands and praying for her survival.Every time the door of the ICU opened, they would anxiously demand answers about her condition from whoever emerged. Such was their desire to see her beat death.I remember one of her sisters, Patricia, who had arrived from overseas, committing to everything in her power to ensure that Winfield received the treatment she required. For her,China Jerseys NFL, there was no question of pulling the plug on Winfield’s life.“Even if she is a vegetable we will look after her,” the sister has said. Her survival is testimony to her will to live to fulfill her purpose on earth and the undying show of strength of her family who had vowed to do all that they can to ensure that she was given a chance to see her two children Jamal and Anike become adults.Roxanne Winfield did not only overcome her injury which has left her permanently disfigured, but she has battled back all the odds and to this day she remains an inspiration to those around her for her indomitable spirit.Although she has lost the ability to speak and to adequately care for herself, she continues to defy the expectations of many.Today Roxanne is cared for by her sister Jackie, but there are others who continue to honour her heroism with tangible support. One such group is the Rotary Club of Stabroek, which had responded to a public call for the donation of a wheelchair to Roxanne Winfield in February last year.It was during this visit that members of the club decided that Roxanne needed a disability-friendly home to if nothing else, enhance her in-house mobility. They say it’s better late than never. Now,Cheap Jerseys, one year later and with the help of the Government of Guyana, The Guyana Prison Service, Habitat for Humanity, the Guyana Relief Council,Cristian Pavon Jersey, Food for the Poor, TCL, Glass Inc and the Hand in Hand Insurance Company, the Rotary club of Stabroek is able to keep its promise to Roxanne Winfield.“The home will be disability friendly and suitable for a stalwart public servant such as Roxanne who has provided exemplary service to her country.”According to the club Miss Winfield,Cheap NBA Jerseys, who 11years later has endured a slow but steady recovery, has displayed nothing but strength and courage.Members of the Rotary Stabroek Club, who visited her several times since the delivery of the whee
