–?? ?Four of 27 cases completedJail delivery on Tuesday, last, by Madame Justice Roxanne George- Wiltshire, brought an end to the June 2011 Criminal Assizes for Berbice. No case submission was upheld in 2 cases by the trial judge which resulted in the jury returning formal verdicts of not guilty against the accused. And in a murder case where the jury could not agree on a verdict against the accused, a new trial was ordered.Six cases were completed by Justice Patterson. They were for the offences of Carnal Knowledge, Rape and Murder. Justice Patterson did 3 Murder cases wherein the accused all pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of Manslaughter and were sentenced to 17, 15 and 8 years imprisonment.? In a Carnal Knowledge case where the victim did not wish to proceed with the trial, the jury returned a formal verdict of not guilty. In another Carnal Knowledge case the Jury returned a unanimous verdict of Not Guilty and in the third case of Carnal Knowledge the jury returned a (10 to 2) majority verdict of guilty and the accused was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.Two other cases received attention during the June Demerara Session. In one case for the offence of Carnal Knowledge the trial commenced but was aborted because the victim went missing. In the other case for the offence of Murder,NHL Jerseys From China, the trial judge after holding an enquiry committed him to the National Psychiatric Hospital for treatment. When this accused is fit to plead then the prosecution will proceed with his trial.
