– GPLThe failure of both converters at the Guyana Power and Light (GPL)’s Sophia station led to a power transfer deficiency and as such they could not convert the 50 Hertz power to 60 Hertz, according to the officials of the power company.Senior Divisional Director of Operations, GPL,Asics Shoes Outlet, Colin Singh, speaking at a panel discussion held at the National Communications Network (NCN), on Monday, explained that GPL has 50 and 60 Hertz systems, both of which are linked by the two frequency converters, which were manufactured in 1976, and installed in 1977.The panel also consisted of System Control and Engineering Services Manager, Dyrick Phill, Divisional Director Operations, Elwyn Marshall and Network Operations Manager, Godfrey Bellamy.The 60 Hertz system extends to the Garden of Eden power station through two high voltage transmission lines.Circuits are being fed from Garden of Eden to Timehri and East Bank and a feeder,Asics Dynaflyte 2 Hombre, which goes across to the West Bank via a submarine cable links the Versailles Power Station to a temporary facility located at Leonora where there are four mobile caterpillar sets, making the 60 Hertz system quite extensive.Residents way beyond Parika, were affected during the outage Monday.Singh, according to a government statement, disclosed that the company has embarked on the Chinese-funded expansion project in which the company intends to build seven new high-voltage substations and about 120 km of high-voltage transmission lines linking the sub stations and the existing stations.He pointed out that the project will be executed over a 28-month period.“The Chinese survey teams are already on the ground and have almost completed their surveys of lines and substations areas. The next stage is for them to produce detailed technical designs packages including drawings and other plans for approval,” Singh asserted.Singh noted that the first priority would be the West Demerara, where two high-voltage substations will be established,Nike Air Max Damen G??nstig, one at Leonora and the other at Vreed-en-Hoop, linked by a high voltage transmission line.This aims to improve voltage and quality of supply, with less outages expected, and extension of the grid will create linkages among the major generating stations.Phill, whose responsibility is to manage the distribution of electricity and scheduled maintenance activities along the network, assured consumers that the engineers at GPL are working to ensure that the supply remains reliable.He apologized to those who suffered as a result of the outages.Dyrick noted that while there was some 60 Hertz generation, there was no voltage support because the power system had a lot of reactive load so the voltage caused depreciation at the supply end.In addition, he said that they encountered problems with the new feeder at Kingston,Wholesale Soccer T-shirts, which resulted in more unscheduled outages.“Nevertheless, the system is now up and running, as we have managed to re-route the circuits and have an alternative feed so that persons are now re-powered,” Dyrick asserted.Bellamy, whose responsibility is to ensure that the distribution network, both transmission and distribution are effectively managed, said,Asics Fuzex Rush Homme, “we plan to continue with the exercise (frequency conversion from 50 to 50 Hertz cycle) which is scheduled to be completed in the first week in December.”This means that there will be outages during this time in those areas which will be completed in early December.He warned persons to be cautious when using appliances such as air conditioned units, washing machines, fans and water pumps during the conversion process as those appliances are uniquely one frequency, while some appliances will not be affected as they work with dual frequency.Marshall,Jerseys Wholesale, who is responsible for the coordination of the generation, system control and network operations of all GPL’s systems, noted that that the caterpillar sets would assist in boosting the voltage to the areas. There was some amount of reduced outages in some of the areas.He said that the company is looking to establish the Leonora station so that there are no disruptions to residents along the way if there is ongoing work between Versailles and Leonora, as they will be fed from the station.
