The Labour Department will be ‘standing firmly’ in support of disabled seaman, Russell Cornelius, who lost both of his legs last month while working on a trawler that is operated by Noble House Seafoods.This is according to Labour Minister, Minister Manzoor Nadir,Jordan Pas Cher Homme France, who in an interview with Kaieteur News said that the investigations are ongoing,Cheap Air Max 90 China, as the Labour Department has received documentation showing that Cornelius has pay slips from the seafood company.“Our position is very principled…the Occupation, Safety and Health Act 1997 states that any death on the job should be immediately reported, and any accident on the job must be reported within a reasonably time.”The Minister however stated that his Ministry learnt about Cornelius’ incident through media reports.“The company is claiming that the captain of the vessel contracted the injured man,Cheap Air Max 90 Free Shipping, but we have seen a document where there is a pay slip from Nobel House to him (Cornelius),” Nadir added.According to the Minister, whether Cornelius was contracted by the captain or not, he has to receive compensation under the Workers’ Compensation Act, and the company will have to comply.“It is not a case where they are trying to pay for the hospital expenses. Cornelius’s legs were severed last month while working on the World Friend 307 at sea.The seaman’s relatives allege that officials from Noble House Seafoods Limited, where Cornelius was employed, had indicated that they would not compensate Cornelius for his injuries.
