Over the years, the Guyana Cultural Association of New York Inc, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the preservation of Guyanese folk festival, has returned to Guyana.At a press conference yesterday at the Carifesta Sports Complex on Carifesta Avenue, the Local Organising Committee said that the organisation took this decision last year to return to its roots in Guyana and sponsor the folk games in Guyana for this year.Hosting the press conference were Margaret Lawrence, Terry Holder, Ron Robinson, Rohan Sattaur who is in charge of advertising, and Basil Bradshaw, who is responsible for the games at the folk festival.This year the committee would be remembering the works of the late Guyanese folklorist Wordsworth Mc Andrew.The symposium and family fun day would help Guyanese to recognise and celebrate McAndrew’s contributions to Guyana’s cultural life.Over the past years, the organisers have posted various themes keeping with arts, craft and literature.Hence the Local Planning Committee has promised a fun-filled and highly cultural event, which would be a prelude to CARIFESTA.The festival is scheduled for August 17 at Carifesta Sports Complex on Carifesta Avenue. The event would be supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.The local committee is seeking sponsorship from commercial organisations,Cheap NFL Jerseys China, and would ask for donations. The festival has also been given the title of ‘creole meeche meeche ‘in homage to a radio programme of the same name that was produced and hosted by ‘Mac’ in the 1970s.At the head table yesterday afternoon were the organisers of the festival, who are planning a comprehensive programme which would have objectives that would include 10 sporting events and eight folk games.Softball, football, circle tennis,Wholesale NBA Jerseys, dominoes,Authentic China Jerseys, Chinese skipping,Wholesale Jerseys, and ‘Red Light’ are included in those games.It would be a celebration of the creativity of Guyanese folk heritage.
