A union has threatened industrial action against the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) after negotiations for salaries and wages reached a deadlock last week.The Guyana Postal and Telecommunication Workers’ Union (GPTWU) is also calling for the telephone company to reverse a decision to fire a maintenance worker.According to the union’s President, Harold Shepherd, in a statement, no progress has been made with GT&T as it relates to increases in wages and salaries for the period October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2011 and October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012.“The union has since dispatched a correspondence to the Chief Labour Officer (CLO) requesting? that the dispute be referred to arbitration, without prejudice to stage five (5) of the extant Collective Labour Agreement between the parties,” Shepherd said.The union has also issued an ultimatum threatening industrial action if the company fails to reverse its decision to terminate the services of Collis Greaves,Wholesale Jerseys USA, who is attached to the Outside Plant Maintenance Division. Greaves is being accused of breaching of procedures.“As a union we are not prepared to sit and allow this dictatorship to continue by some of the top brass within the company who appear to be “hell bent” on using their form of constructive dismissal in an effort to reduce the work force for minor infractions,” the union warned.It urged the management of GT&T to tread “tread very cautiously…failing which the Union is prepared to use all the industrial relations tools at its disposal to stop this runaway train before he (sic) destroys what our membership has built over the last 20 years.”In February,Jerseys Cheap NFL, the union and GT&T had clashed over the release of staffers’ personal information during negotiations.
