Authorities have announced a campaign against illegal “rum-shops”, following several complaints.In an advisory published in yesterday’s edition of Kaieteur News, it was disclosed that the Ministry of Home Affairs,Cheap Jerseys, the Guyana Revenue Authority and the Guyana Police Force have launched a campaign against “unlicensed liquor restaurants/bottom-house rum-shops operating illegally across the country.”The Ministry said that it views very seriously complaints from residents who are affected by these illegal operations and takes cognizance of the fact that the operators of unlicensed liquor restaurants/bottom house rum-shops are guilty of tax evasion, and contribute to the social problems in many communities.“Persons are therefore urged to take careful note of this advisory and bring themselves to conformity with the Act or face the full force of the law.”The advisory noted that persons who operate liquor restaurants without the requisite licences are in contravention of section 79 of the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act, Chapter 82:21 of Guyana.That Act states: “Everyone found selling, or offering or exposing for sale, any spirituous liquor or any wine or malt liquor at any place other than in a place or premises duly licensed under the Act who does not produce a licence authorising the sale or the offering or exposing for sale of wine,China NFL Jerseys, malt liquor,Cheap Jerseys From China, or spirituous liquor at the time when and at the place where he is so found selling it, or offering or exposing it for sale, may be arrested by the Comptroller or any Constable or Rural Constable and detained? until he can be brought before a Magistrate? and dealt with according to law and the wine,? malt, liquor or spirituous liquor,Cheap NBA Jerseys China, so sold,Wholesale Jerseys From China, or offered or exposed for sale,Cheap NFL Jerseys Store, with the packages containing it, shall be seized and forfeited.”Overtime, especially in the far-flung areas, illegal shops have sprung up. Many shops, with licences for groceries and soft-drinks, would sell the beers and other alcoholic beverages “under the counter”.In additional to loud music and the lack of toilet and other facilities, nearby residents with badly parked vehicles which sometimes last to the wee hours of the morning are also under observation and are served notices.
