Legendary ‘funny man’ Paul Keens-Douglas is in Guyana for the Father’s Day weekend. Slated to entertain at the Theatre Guild tonight during a special show dedicated to fathers, Guyanese fans will not only be able to see Keens-Douglas in action but will be able to take home some of the legend.Mr. Keens-Douglas, at a press briefing, yesterday, announced that he would be launching his latest book “As ah was sayin …” before he takes the stage tonight. He says that the book is one of the latest volumes in a project that spans the last five years; the intent being to chronicle for posterity his assorted works over the last two decades. He has sought to have all of his shows that were initially recorded on MPs transferred to Compact Disc a collection that now takes up 16 CDs. He has two DVDs of new live performances and five volumes of selected works that include poetry, anthologies and jokes. The effort he says is to ensure that there is an accessible collection of his works for that “smart man” who will come along to use it someday. The book that he would be launching this evening, “As ah was sayin …”,Cheap Anaheim Ducks Hoodies,? contains three parts, two of which are older shows and the last containing more recent work.He has also brought along a DVD that includes works such as ‘Foot or Ball’ which is his response to the constant complaint of fans that all he seems to discuss is Cricket, so now he has written about his days as a young man growing up and playing football. Also included is an educational piece on Hurricanes that the disaster preparedness organisations of Barbados asked him to prepare for schools across the island. He called the piece ‘When winds blow’; based on Hurricane Ivan which destroyed Grenada. The DVD talks about the Dos and Don’ts, before,Wholesale China Jerseys, during and after a hurricane. He says that he uses humour to educate, to make the material interesting.Mr. Keens-Douglas pointed out that this was part of his motivation for preserving his works which he felt could one day be used in the education system. He encouraged other performing artistes to start archiving their works saying that if everyone were to preserve their little corner then that much more of the West Indian culture and history could be saved. The advice, he noted, was not just confined to performers but to people from all walks of life; there should be preservation of the way we cook or of the way the best batsmen in the business did it in their day.He also highlighted the need for the person living that particular life to do the archiving themselves because there was no guarantee that after their passing that there might be a loving relative around to see that the works are preserved for the future. The Comedian also spoke about his next project, saying that although he has been putting them together slowly over the years, now that the latest book is out of the way, he intends to focus on his memoirs. The telling will include his early life in Trinidad, performing, spending time in the theatres and the events that brought him to where he is in his life today. He also revealed that his career has taken a new turn over the last few years. He has cut back on his time spent on live shows and performances and instead is spending his time doing motivational speaking. Saying that he has gotten too old for the stress of all those big shows and that he is content to leave that to the younger folks the comedian turned motivational speaker pointed out that he now has the opportunity to take his old works, adapt them and use them to educate. He points out that Tante Merle, one of his stable characters over the years, has now taken on a new role as a woman of substance,China Jerseys Wholesale, a figure for female empowerment in the world of business. He uses his humour and reinvents his stories and jokes to get across whatever point he happens to be teaching,NFL Jerseys Wholesale, whether it is customer service, team work or leadership and he says with a smile that he truly enjoys this new turn that his career has taken.Despite his move to a new arena, however, Mr. Keens-Douglas has not forsaken performing either as is evident from his presence here in Guyana this weekend.Reflecting on Talk Tent, which began in 1983 and holds the honour of being one of the longest running comedy shows in the Caribbean, he noted that there is still more to be done in the business. He recalls that a few years ago he got the opportunity to feature Ms. Ruth Osman in Talk Tent and tonight the duo will perform for the same audience, Mr. Keens-Douglas doing his comedy routine and Ms. Osman her jazz selections.Jazz, Wine and Words is an evening of culture, music and comedy devoted to
