Year after year, contrary to the norm in any modern democratic state, the reasonable expectations of Guyanese workers for enhancement in working conditions and benefits and the consequent improvement in quality of life for their families, keeps fading away.Clearly, this is the result of policies that were consciously designed to move public workers backwards and condemn them to poverty,Cheap Adidas NHL Jerseys, vulnerability, remove security of tenure and ultimately make them into political pawns to be maneuvered at the whims and fancies of a regime of selfish materialists that masquerades as having working class credentials but collaborates with special interest regardless of the morality.I would premise this statement on three examples of the realty that exist. One, notwithstanding the unanimous adoption by the parliament of Guyana of ILO conventions 86, 98, 151,Cheap NFL Jerseys, on free collective bargaining,Wholesale Jerseys, the government has acted in contradiction by crudely imposing upon workers salary increases less than the inflation rate for over six years depreciating their economic capacity and relegating them deeper into poverty and despair. Two, workers are being denied sustainable employment with security of tenure and retirement benefits and are being forced into vulnerable and exploitive contract employment.Hard won benefits that were earned and justified from the process of collective bargaining are being arbitrarily withdrawn.Thirdly, workers are being criminalized and politically, discriminately and vindictively denied their right to fair employment and the unions of their choice are being blatantly and illegally obstructed and frustrated from functioning effectively in their interest as guaranteed by the constitution of Guyana.Public funds and public agencies are being misused and abused politically to vilify and manufacture propaganda. All of these actions are attempts to delay action and distract attention from genuine concerns. These are the atrocities,Wholesale NFL Jerseys China, which over time, have evolved and must be dealt with to prevent further pain and suffering of conscientious and hardworking people of the public service. This would also contribute to the development of and an improvement in the spirit and harmony of relations between people in our country.Driven by this belief, the Guyana Public Service Union led public workers to take on this challenge one decade ago. We stood firm in fending off political thugs in an effort to secure these ideals by sacrificing and struggling for 57 days.Today that sacrifice would be in vain if we do not take stock, rejuvenate and recommit to the defence of our rights, together with all workers, nationwide, to salvage the gains won through the sacrifice of our forefathers and save our beloved country of Guyana from being a failed state. The mindset that produces many misnomers is also at the heart of this problem. In essence it should be recognized that public workers serve the people of Guyana,Cheap Air Max Shoes With Free Shipping, not the government of Guyana, and the government supports this process by providing supervision under the guidelines of the mandate from the people. The government is entrusted public funds for discharging their functions and they are also paid from public funds for supervising, overseeing and conducting the affairs of state in accordance with the constitution and laws of Guyana. All should also be mindful of the fact that public workers are also citizens whose taxes contribute to those public funds.Nevertheless,NFL Jerseys China, the scenario that often plays out is one where workers are vilified for demanding their fair and just portion of national production.I would also like to emphasize that trade unionism deals with social justice. It is in fact the vanguard for social justice in Guyana and all workers should rally to reinforce and empower the movement to discharge this national, regional, and global mission that is vital to the prosperity of all citizens.History would show when the movement weakens there are developments of manmade disasters. Such current or topical examples include the global financial crises.Change is necessary if we are to stop our skilled and qualified people from leaving Guyana since they can no longer envision a future in Guyana with opportunities to strive and achieve an environment of harmonious relations between people regardless of race, ethnicity, religions and culture.Good governance is needed to attain and preserve such a desired national environment. There is need for credible and unimpeachable institutions – free from political tampe

Commissioner of Police (ag) Leroy Brumell is expected to make a decision soon on the requestedDavid Ramnarinedisciplinary action against outspoken Assistant Commissioner David Ramnarine. He is to decide on making a recommendation to the Police Service Commission.Brumell had written to Ramnarine for him to state why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for his alleged breach of the force’s standing order,Jerseys From China, which prohibits him from speaking publicly without permission on matters related to the organization. This followed a request by Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee who had declared that he had lost confidence in the divisional commander.Ramnarine, who was given two days to respond to Brumell, has reportedly sent a belated response, the details of which were not immediately available.Ramnarine had ruffled a few feathers when he publicly declared that he had not received any money to provide meals for his ranks during the elections, from the funds allocated for such purpose by the government. He embarrassed the administration by stating that he was advised to beg members of the business community for assistance to feed his ranks. The Minister of Home Affairs, obviously irked by Ramnarine’s outspokenness, had at the annual police officers’ conference,Nike Roshe Run Men, issued a warning to officers about speaking? to the media on force matters of a sensitive nature.“I want to warn about this malpractice. The Guyana Police Force is an integral Member of the Disciplined Services, as such its Members are expected to behave in a disciplined manner. Once the Commissioner of Police issues a Force Order in respect to communications with the Media, it is expected that all and sundry within the Force, particularly at the Senior level will fall in line and uphold that Order and will not seek to adopt an individualistic and egoistic stand and moreso, provide their personal view to the Media,” the Home Affairs Minister had told the officers. This did not deter Ramnarine though, and a few days later he expressed his views in an articulate Letter to the Editor in Guyana’s two leading dailies.Leroy BrumellIn the letter Ramnarine argued that his constitutional right to free expression superseded the Force’s standing order. The situation reached boiling point as this further rattled the Home Affairs Minister who immediately wrote to Acting Commissioner Brumell requesting disciplinary action against Assistant Commissioner Ramnarine. The Minister in his letter to Brumell stated that it must be borne in mind that Ramnarine serves at the highest level of the Force, yet he has chosen to set a bad example for the Force under cover of his constitutional rights.“His actions are careless, Part III of the Police (Discipline) Act Chapter (17:01) states: ‘Any Member of the Force (other than the Commissioner) who communicates to the Publisher or Editor of any newspaper or to any unauthorised person any matter connected with the Force without the permission of the Commissioner; commits an offence against discipline and is liable to such punishment as may be imposed upon him by the Commissioner or the Disciplinary Authority in accordance with the provisions of the? Schedule except that no punishment provided in Sub-paragraph (d),Cheap Air Max Shoes For Sale, (e), (f),Nike Air Max 95 Sale, or (g) or paragraph 1 of the schedule shall be imposed on a Special Constable who has not been called out full time service’.”In the circumstances,Wholesale Jerseys, the Minister of Home Affairs hereby declared that that he had lost confidence in Ramnarine and as a consequence, had requested that action be taken at his level in accordance with the Police (Discipline) Act Chap 17:01.Should Ramnarine fail to respond to the acting commissioner’s memo, the matter will be taken before the Police Service Commission for action to be taken. If a case is made out against Ramnarine,NFL Jerseys Cheap, he could be demoted in seniority or could receive a letter of censure.

We started looking and were given the opportunity by Mr. Roy Beepat and his mall,” related Borges. The US$24M Giftland Mall will have its ceremonial opening today and will be opened to the public from tomorrow. The Mall is said to be the first of its kind in Guyana with Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo calling it the single biggest innovation in Guyana’s commerce.
