The People’s National Congress Reform has expressed shock and deeply saddened by the tragic disturbances and loss of lives at the Georgetown Prison on Thursday. Seventeen prisoners died and five others injured.The Party extends its deepest sympathy to the families and relatives of those prisoners who perished during the riots at the prison.Official reports indicated that the protest by the prisoners began on Wednesday night after prison officials carried out a raid and seized 19 cell phones and a quantity of narcotics that had been smuggled into the prison.The protest started again on Thursday morning,Nike Shox Gravity, when attempts were being made to remove some of the prisoners from the capital offenses section which is used to house prisoners who have been committed to stand high court trials or those on remand for serious crimes.The PNCR also welcomes the Commission of Inquiry ordered by President David Granger to investigate the circumstances which led to this tragedy and to make recommendations to prevent a recurrence.
