There are 51 CPG groups in Berbice. Some 34 groups participated in a Ministry of Home Affairs- requested audit which was conducted last March to allow the ministry to be au fait with the material and other needs of the CPG in the division. The ministry responded to the needs of the audit.The CPG, during the handing over, stated that while they are thankful for the kind gesture, there are several other needs. The representative said that the challenges they experience within their scope of work, since they are not full-fledged commissioned police officers, are sometimes overwhelming.Slow rate of processing Rural Constables (RCs) and absence of RCs in the various rural districts within the division handicap the services provided by the CPG.Mr Chattergoon explained that the CPG in his division trained some 180 young people across Berbice in a youth programme recently. It is also targeting women across the Berbice region to get them involved in valuable skills training activities.
