The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has insisted that it has not replaced chlorine for the decontamination of water.The statement by GWI comes after a weekend of news reports that the state-owned company would be using a questionable chemical that is replacing chlorine.The reports had referred to Director of the Government Analyst Food and Drug Department, Marlan Cole, who warned against the use of the product Antinfek.GWI’s Managing Director, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles, explained that “Antinfek is an organic chemical being researched by GWI for effective disinfection prior to distribution to the public. ““Similarly, GWI is dispelling reports that the use of Antinfek has replaced that of chlorine for the decontamination of water.
