Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony during last year’s budget debate had revealed plans to employ a consultant to help upgrade and update the country’s youth policy with financial assistance from the United Nations Development Fund.However, during the debate this year, the Minister again revealed plans to retain the services of a consultant for this very purpose.According to him, efforts were made to create a youth advisory board to supervise the work of the consultant but “unfortunately the preliminary reports that we got were not acceptable to the board.”As such, Dr Anthony during his contribution to this year’s budget debate said that “we will renew our quests to find a suitable consultant to assist us with the formulation of this policy.”Nonetheless, the Minister assured that the programmes that have been introduced by the Ministry have served to create a tremendous and positive impact in the lives of young people.“I am sure when the Minister of Finance was considering how to allocate the budget he recognised the importance of these programmes.
