The Diabetic Foot Care unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) is continuing to work assiduously towards further reducing the number of diabetes-related amputations while educating citizens on measures that can be taken to prevent the incidence of diabetes in Guyana.Guyana now has 66 more trained medical professionals who are certified to administer diabetic foot care. Both prevention and treatment components of comprehensive care are promoted at the DFC.A specific 60-second screening tool, created to identify high risk status, has been adopted by the Ministry of Health and over a thousand (1000) persons with diabetes have been screened.In keeping with the goal / objectives of the DFC, there has been continuous training of health care professionals’ nationwide.These professionals have been certified by the centre and are tasked with educating and treating patients in the area of diabetic foot care.
